Welcome to the Vintage Aircraft Club Web site. The club originated some years after the Second World War when a number of people realised that in the attempts to clean up the mess of the war, many potentially historic aircraft were being broken up or burnt! To stop this continuing, the Vintage Aircraft Group was formed, which later became the Vintage Aircraft Club.
The club continues with this theme to keep old aircraft in the medium they were designed for, the air. We accomplish this by providing a number of events, both flying and social, to bring club members together throughout the year.
The definitions of Vintage and Classic aircraft are 40 and 25 years respectively and this is a rolling age. We consider it important to keep this rolling date as time and technology keep moving on bringing different eras of machines and technologies onto the register. What is considered old to the younger generation may not be considered that old to those of advancing years and future generations will bring newer types into the fold.
It is very important to introduce the younger generation to the vintage and classic aircraft world and we welcome them to our events to learn about flight through the ages. Not only can the young people learn about the heritage of flight but can, if they wish to be more involved, learn how to marshal the aircraft from our team of experienced marshallers.
This web site provides a window to some of our plans and information but to get the full enjoyment of the vintage aircraft world, why not join the club. The design and technologies of these early machines is fascinating to discover and being a member will allow you closer contact with the owners and restorers of these fine aerial devices.
I look forward to seeing you at one of our events in the near future where we will make you most welcome.
Have a vintage life,
John L Broad
